On Angela's 2nd CD, "History":

"The visceral, startling power of Angela Ai's voice is matched only by the unapologetic snarl of her lyrics. The beautifully sparse production on her CD History features only her keyboard, voice and miles of space. The roominess of the record creates a wonderful frame for her expressive voice and intelligent, complex compositions.

From start to finish, History is an absorbing release. On songs like the feral title track and "World War Three," Ai grips the listener and doesn't let go until the bumpy, exhilarating ride is over. On "Just A Dream", "I Really Miss That" and the ethereal closer "Free", her voice and hushed, sparkling piano create a sweet, sad rapture.

Although it may seem obvious to compare Ai to Tori Amos, it's fitting - not just for Ai's piano/voice settings, but for her intensely personal, sometimes confrontational, always effective songs."

I first heard Angela at a showcase at Fez in NYC, and was immediately impressed with her command of the piano and her powerful stage presence, as well as her warmth/intimacy with the audience. I was even more taken with the cd "History", as it focused on the rawness of her solo piano/vocals, which is a very brave way to present one's work, with no flashy production to hide behind or distract from the songs themselves. Angela seems to have enormous range not only as a writer but as a singer, and on this CD she reveals a sense of empathy and desire to communicate her own personal story that borders on startling. From her first song on this album, she makes you sit up and listen - not only because she sings of her own experience as a passionate, intelligent woman, but also because she naturally reflects universal truths in her lyrics. I am exciting to see where this and forthcoming albums will lead her! I'm sure her talent, insightfulness and drive the moon's the limit...

There is no question that Angela is a fantastic musician and technician. But those are a dime a dozen. What is outstanding about her is that she combines her artistry with passion and truth. With a mesmorizing and dynamic delivery, her lyrics and perfectly married melodies are relentlessly captivating. The fact that her sole accompaniment is her piano might have left lesser performers sounding like a work-in-progress rough demo, but she commands the keys with much authority and leaves you wanting for nothing...except more songs.

"I have never seen a performer affect an audience the way that Angela has - eliciting joy and tears and everything in between . . . her stage presence, her strong connection to her audience are truly rare."

"Angela never ceases to amaze me! Truly inspiring, Angela always approaches her artistry through new eyes and ears using all of her senses. She is a true artist."
